Disadvantages: cannot be recycled and cannot be welded. High production cost and low tear strength. Application: The side of the door and window facing the outdoors requires frequent opening and closing actions for dynamic sealing. It is not suitable for occasions requiring high tear strength.
EPDM is a terpolymer of ethylene, propylene and non-conjugated dienes. Dienes have a special structure, and only one of the two bonds can be copolymerized. The unsaturated double bond is mainly used as a cross-link site. The other unsaturated one will not become the main chain of the polymer, but will only become the side chain. The main polymer chains of EPDM are fully saturated. This property makes EPDM resistant to heat, light, oxygen, and especially ozone. EPDM is non-polar in nature, resistant to polar solutions and chemicals, has low water absorption and has good insulating properties.
Compared with other commonly used general rubber or special rubber, the main performance advantages of EPDM rubber are in the following aspects [
(1) High cost performance, the raw rubber density is only 0.86~0.90kg/m3, which is the lightest commonly used rubber; and it can be filled in large quantities to reduce the cost of rubber materials.
(2) Excellent aging resistance, weather resistance, ozone resistance, sunlight resistance, heat resistance, water resistance, water vapor resistance, ultraviolet resistance, radiation resistance and other aging properties, when combined with other unsaturated diene rubbers such as NR, SBR, When BR, NBR, and CR are used together, EPDM can act as a polymer antioxidant or anti-aging agent.
(3) Excellent chemical resistance, resistance to acids, alkalis, detergents, animal and vegetable oils, alcohols, ketones, etc.; excellent resistance to water, superheated water, water vapor; resistance to polar oils.
(4) Excellent insulation performance, volume resistivity 1016Q·cm, breakdown voltage 30~40MV/m, dielectric constant (1kHz, 20ºC) 2.27.
(5) Wide applicable temperature range, operating temperature -40~-60ºC, can be used under 130ºC for a long time
